Emma worked for 20+ years in corporate marketing and despite looking like she had it all, she was 'running on empty' on the inside using caffeine and booze to keep herself afloat. As she reached her mid-forties, alcohol started to take more than it was giving and so began her long and very messy break-up with booze. Nothing stuck until her eldest asked her to 'stop bringing wine into their bedroom' then it finally landed for her.
Emma started the process of rebuilding herself as an adult, with nurturing care. She discovered her values, stopped drinking, and had to create a whole new identity. Kicking the booze to the curb gave Emma a previously unknown level of confidence and personal power to pursue her dreams and become a qualified counselor and coach. Still very much a work in progress, Emma is an Aussie-based peri-menopausal mum of neuro and gender-diverse teens. She loves stand-up paddleboarding, ocean swimming and has recently purchased some gorgeous hot pink roller-skates. The focus of her coaching work is women in midlife curious as to what could open up for them and their families if they took a break from or stopped drinking. 'But alcohol is needed for connection, right?', this is the message we've all received for years. Movies, adverts, and society at large all sending us the message that 'alcohol is the secret sauce when finding friends' or 'a party isn't a party without alcohol!'. But is this really true? If you look around an alcohol-fuelled party at 1 am, are we really seeing 'connection' or something completely different? Come and join us for this week's episode of the Present and Sober podcast as we dive into this belief and consider the reality behind this 'promise' of connection. Regardless of where you are on your alcohol-free journey, we know you'll gain some inspiration and insight from this one!
'I drink to relax'
July 27, 2021 • 63 MIN
Why did/do you drink? Do you still hold the belief that drinking is the ultimate shortcut to relaxation? We're certainly told this (and sold this), on adverts, billboards, and just about every Hollywood film known to humankind. Watch any high-pressured TV program and what will the winner say after they're handed the title? 'I NEED A DRINK!'. The message? Alcohol relaxes us, alcohol regulates our emotions. But is this the whole picture? Is it possible we've been lied to by big alcohol? When Ellie realised that drinking might not just be the silver bullet for relaxation that she had always believed it was, it propelled her on a journey to her best self and she's never looked back. Come and join us as we shine a light on the truth behind a belief that many of us have held as 'fact' for a long time.

July 20, 2021 • 49 MIN
When you look back on your day, what are the parts you remember? Do you see the whole picture and remember the small wins you had that made you smile, or do you focus in on the one negative passing comment that your boss made? Wherever you are in your journey (be it alcohol-free or otherwise) this is a powerful piece of the puzzle. Come and see how you really are doing the best you can in this week's episode (even if you feel like you're not)!

'Why you might be stuck...'
July 6, 2021 • 37 MIN
Alcohol and celebrating go together like coffee and cake, right? You just CAN'T have one without the other! That's the message we see all around us - a celebration isn't a celebration without a drink in our hand! But is this REALLY the case? Is this reality or just something we believe and never question because everyone has bought into the story? Come and join us for this week's episode where we explore the different layers of belief that keep us stuck in an unhealthy relationship with alcohol (or any other substance). Understanding how things work at the level of substance, society and self is a huge piece of the puzzle when we're setting ourselves free from behaviours that no longer serve us and we know you'll her a lot from this one!
